The ITBA Southern Region held their annual awards evening last Friday. The venue was a new and novel setting at the Fethard Horse Country Experience and it certainly lived up to its name. For anyone who hasn't been to visit this museum, I couldn't recommend it highly enough. Aesthetically it is magnificent and historically it is exceptionally informative and a credit to the Fethard Business and Tourism Committee.

These regional award evenings are great occasions for local breeders. A great crowd gathered not only to have a glimpse at the very interesting surroundings but also to celebrate the wealth of talent that is plentiful in this region.

Our winners were as follows:

Flat Filly Award: Precieuse Bred by Knocktoran Stud

Flat Colt Award: Battaash Bred by Ballyphillip Stud

NH Hurdler Award:Death Duty Bred by Geoffrey Thompson

NH Chaser Award: Might Bite Bred by John O'Brien

The Final award of the evening was the Contribution to the Industry and this year our very deserving winner was Jim Mulcahy.

Jim has given so much tot he Industry in many different guises,, firstly as a veterinary surgeon, committee member at local racetrack, huge advocate of point to points and also a top class breeder including last season's Coventry Stakes winner Rajasinghe at Royal Ascot.
