ITBA A Smart Approach to Yearling Sales Preparation Workshop

Thursday, 5th August 2021 10.am - 1.pm

This virtual workshop will cover all aspects of a good planning programme in advance of the upcoming Yearling Sales Season. Correct preparation is key to success. The following elements will be covered; farriery, nutrition, transportation and veterinary. Once again fees have been waved. To register email Kerry Ryan at kryan@itba.ie or call ITBA HQ 045 877543. As this is a hugely popular workshop, early registration is advised.

A superb panel has been secured to deliver this virtual workshop, consisting of;

  • Breeder/ Consignor Cathy Grassick of Newtown House Stud who will cover the need to devise a preparation programme to ensure your stock reaches their full potential

  • Veterinarian Serena Iceton of Troytown Equine Hospital who will cover matters to be considered for selling foals at public auction as well as the importance of a good vaccination programme and the implementation of good practice.

  • Lorraine Fradl, an equine nutritionist with Connolly RED MILLS will cover the benefits and importance of a good feeding for yearlings in the run up to the Sales Season

  • Master Farrier Martin Payne will cover the Importance of correct farriery in yearlings in the run up to the Sales Season

  • Declan Murray, director at BBA Ireland, on behalf of Ann Munnelly, Shipping Director will cover the paperwork requirements and considerations for transporting yearlings to sales outside of Ireland, in a post COVID environment.

  • Panellists;

Cathy Grassick: Daughter of Sheila and Brian, now assists her mother in running Brian Grassick Bloodstock. She has many years’ experience working with horses in a wide range of roles and also has a degree in Business and Law from UCD. She joined Brian Grassick Bloodstock as an agent in 2008, having previously worked alongside her father as his assistant for many years. In recent years she has been responsible for purchasing such good horses as Grandeur, Klassique, Majestic Queen under the Brian Grassick Bloodstock banner. Cathy is Vice Chairman of ITBA

Serena Iceton: Associate Veterinarian at Troytown Grey Abbey. Serena graduated from Szent Istvan Egyetem University, Budapest Hungary in February 2017. Having grown up on a thoroughbred stud farm (Tara Stud), she undertook internships with Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital and Sycamore Lodge Equine Hospital. Before taking up her position with Troytown Grey Abbey, she worked with Arrowfield Stud. Serena is working towards certification in equine reproduction and stud medicine

Lorraine Fradl: Lorraine has worked with Connolly’s Red Mills since 2016 after spending a number of years working with thoroughbred studs, racehorses and elite sport horses. Lorraine’s role as a Senior Equine Nutritionist involves work at home and abroad. Her technical support schedule has brought her to many parts of Ireland and numerous countries across Europe and the Middle East region.

Martin Payne: Qualifications-AWCF. Martin has 35 years in the Farriery industry. Farriery lecturer at CAFRE (current) alongside running his own Farriery business which involves shoeing sport horses, young stock, and general riding horse. Involved in remedial and corrective Farriery with vets and physios. Former lecturer at Irish school of Farriery. Previously speaker for Connolly RED MILLS, HSI, RACE, BHS and ITBA.

Declan Murray: Declan is a Director with BBA Ireland and is representing Ann Munnelly, Shipping Director on this occasion.
