ITBA South Leinster Region hosted a well-received and informative Open Meeting in Newpark Hotel last Tuesday at which regional breeders' achievements were also acknowledged.

ITBA CEO Una Tormey introduced the evening, which was the final in a series of planned Regional Evenings. The CEO updated those on the ongoing work the ITBA is undertaking, a key priority being reigniting regional activity and committees together with enhancing the Associations communication. South Leinster Region Chair Caoimhe Doherty thanked members for attending and encouraged breeders to put themselves forward for regional committees.

Attendees heard from Agricultural Adviser Tom Cashen, who discussed the welcomed inclusion of the Equine Farming Sector in the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (TAMS) and the grant options available for stud farms.

ITM's Marketing Executive Alex Cairns delivered a presentation on the work of ITM, including the success of the IRE Incentive Scheme to date while Agricultural Scientist with the IEC, Shane Browne discussed ongoing measures breeders should undertake to ensure farm hygiene and best practices on stud farms, also discussing current packages on offer to ITBA members, of which details can be found on ITBA website or by contacting the IEC directly on 045-866 266. Pedigree Research Manager with Weatherbys, Michelle Fogarty talked breeders through the e-Passport concept, 30 Day Foal notifications and the planned introduction of Thermochips.

ITBA Chairman Cathy Grassick reminded breeders of the comprehensive educational programme, encouraging breeders to attend the many webinars throughout the year. She also highlighted the importance of the ITBA continuing to invest in the Next Generation.

Following the discussion regional chair Caoimhe Doherty acknowledged regional breeders who bred black type/graded winners in 2022 and presented Awards to attendees celebrating their recent success at home and abroad.
